If your neighbors were not there tho i bet youd need it. Also if its smaller it may tend to run longer which would make your bill higher. Having a smart thermostat will save anyone on there heating bills. Unfortunately for myself i live in a brick building in a loft apartment/shop built in 1929 with no insulation and with a flat roof. Heating it costs me 300 a month in January. I have a boiler system and this is an industrial building with firefroof floors that cannot be cut because they are 10-12” thick reenforced concrete.

When photos were all analogue, they were incredibly valuable memories. Even when badly lit, a bit shaky or otherwise imperfect, if you only had that one picture of an event, it would end up in a photo album. Today we take many photos of all and everything every day and barely even look at them ever again. I think that's kind of sad.

The timing of this video is a crazy coincidence. I had to replace one of these simmerstats a few months back. I was amazed to find I could get one shipped from Amazon for less than $25. Crazy cheap old tech. I have read that newer ovens are switching over to potentiometer based controls, which are much more expensive. I'm assuming that these control the burner element through the help of some expensive logic board. I also don't know if this was limited to induction style or conventional style.

My air fryer keeps setting off the smoke alarm in my house before even my air quality sensor says there an issue with VOCs. There is no smoke to begin with when it gets set off. I know in my area, photoelectric detectors that are networked via wiring are mandatory by build codes. There also might be disposal restrictions for the ionizing as well. Might want to keep that Americium in them since they make a great calibration source, no need to remove it from the shielding unless you want to see it in a cloud chamber.

110 kW for a day boils down to roughly 50 euro's a day just for heating. Over a month of winter that'd be prohibitively expensive - more than the average yearly electricity usage in just one month. Granted, we rarerly see temperatures lower than -10 (14 F) here so the power usage to maintain a pleasant temperature would be less but over the 3--5 months of late-autumn - winter - early spring that's gonna add up.

The real question is. what the hell are people plugging in to melt these things? lol AS FUCK. I was taught to always check the appliance im using for its power requirements and make sure I got the right wire for it. But my dog chewed off alota vacuum plugs growing up so I learned about the AWG system and how not all cords are created equal quite early on in life.

Your AC voltage is twice what it is on household outlets in the U.S. Therefor twice as fast to heat. I just use the microwave. We all, pretty much use drip coffee makers. We also don't observe Tea Time, whereas everything stops in England for a 10 min break for tea. - Twice a day. I and most Asians use a rice cooker. But that might otherwise also be uncommon in Americans homes. It's all about convenience, in a trade off with just having yet another appliance on your kitchen countertop to clutter things up.

You know, I completely forgot about this but I'm hoping you do monitor all your comments (even on content from Christmas.) As someone who makes stained glass (for woodworking, etc.) I'm going to suggest to you products called Vitrea and Vitrail by Pebeo. They are painted-on colorants for glass that are generally water-resistant (can be heat fixed for greater resistance) and exists specifically for the coloring & staining of glass. There are various opacities; and can be made more opaque with subsequent layers of application. Anyways, these are products I use to great effect for backlit glass panels, clock faces, etc. and will do exactly what you're looking for. I have not tried using it on plastic, but since glass bulbs on LED C7 is becoming more common, should not be any problems. If you had a means to carefully remove the glass bulb part, you could even paint the interior for the greatest weather resistance. I, in-fact, just finished staining some glass bulbed Edison-style c7 LED lights for a project today.

Aggressive amalgam! That makes me aggressive too, when I rememeber what pain int the this "energy saving lamps" were in the not so distant past ;-) Well done very detailed explanation of the tricks and ambages to make the ugly "energy saving lamps" somewhat usable ;-) Thank god (or thank the inventors and engineers) the LED lamps were invented, and improved and affordable some years later. The "energy saving lamps" never lasted as long as advertised, and to dispose the waste was inconvenient too (find a dealer who takes it back, and have the bill at hand). I live in the EU. The EU forced us to buy the incandescent two years before the LED where affordable available. In that two years we needet to buy the almost usless "energy saving lamps" because filament lamps were forbidden and only available in darknet ;-) I doubt that there was a significant co2 reduction noticeable in the two years between law against filament lamps and the "triumphal procession" of LED lamps that made filament lamps obsolete.

The heat pump is simply the REFRIGERATION process. Refrigeration can appear to be like magic, meaning, the efficiency can be 300% or more. The amount of energy pumped can be 3 or more times the amount of energy required to do the pumping. The magic takes place in the condenser unit. The compressor compresses the refrigerant gas into a hot gas (not a liquid). When this hot gas flows through the condenser cooling coils, it condenses into a liquid. This change of state from a gas to a liquid is where the magic is. If the condenser cooling coils are large enough, not even a cooling fan is necessary to achieve this change of state.

I’ve lived in the south east U.S.. The home was 1700 sg ft and built in 1990. The AC/Heat pump was brand new. We rarely saw temps below 40 deg. We paid over $400 a month for electricity in those winter months. And we were constantly frozen and require electric space heaters in most rooms. Thermostat set at 68 deg. I recently moved to northern Michigan. You think Chicago is cold? The house was built in 1974 and is 2200 sq ft. The home doesn’t have AC or ventilation ducting. It does have a new NG hot water boiler with three zones. Thermostat se at 69. This home is very comfortable in the winter and it costs us about $150 a month and never requires supplemental heat. We are many times more comfortable with the outdoor temps well below zero than I was down south! From my understanding heat pumps struggle to extract heat below about 40 deg F. And it showed. When the heat pump was in heat mode the air temps out of the ducting was often below the 68 deg set on the thermostat. This causes a supplemental heat source in the form of the a 240 vacuum heating coil to activate in the system. Btw, you blow cold air across a heated coil it will cool and reduce efficiency. The air temps out of the ducts to almost feel warm. The electric meter looks like it was a saw blade. No such issues with our modern NG hot water system. We don’t even see the thermostat move. The basement zone almost never comes on even in the coldest temps. The main floor is the main user of heat. The third floor is somewhere in between due to the heat rising from the main floor. So we actually keep that thermostat reduced a few degrees. IMHO, using how often your system runs as an indicator of proper heating system size is horribly flawed. How often it runs is more of a fiction of how well the home retains heat. Our southern built home was essentially a crap box with bad windows. Our 1974 up north home is a much better built home with much better windows and doors. So in totality it’s a function of everything. But I won’t be going back to electric heat pumps. It’s been a while since I researched it, but getting a heat pump to keep a home warm in possibly consistent below zero temperatures without supplemental heat is very hard, expensive or maybe impossible. As you mentioned, I will gladly fail on the warm side. Since up here NG is much cheaper than electricity you can keep the heat pump. I do wish you luck with your heat pump.

Speaking of detectors: on my bike commute, one complex intersection left turn is governed by detector. If a car is that, it will cycle through a green arrow (not immediately, but as part of the normal sequence). If there's not, it just gives you a straight green light (I think it shows a flashing yellow arrow). My bike is apparently too small to signal it, and in morning rush hour, it's very difficult for me to get through unless there's a left turning car ahead of me.
